Wildcats capture third straight NSIC men's track and field title
Nate Preston wins three events, named NSIC Newcomer of the Year
The Wayne State men's track and field team captured a third straight NSIC championship Saturday in Wayne.

Final Results 2008 NSIC Men's Track and Field

The Wayne State College men’s track and field team captured a third straight Northern Sun Conference championship Saturday in rainy and windy conditions at the 2008 Northern Sun Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships being held in Wayne, Nebraska.  The Wildcats scored 164 points to edge second place University of Mary with 156.5. Marlon Brink of Wayne State College was named the NSIC Men’s Track and Field Coach of the Year for leading the Wildcats to the team title while junior distance runner Nate Preston, who won three individual events, was selected the NSIC Men’s Newcomer of the Year.

The men’s team had seven conference champions to help win the team title as Preston, a junior from Omaha Benson won three events for the Wildcats, winning the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:20.09), crossing the line first in the 10,000 meter run in a time of 32:31.80 and taking first in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:36.67.  Another multi-winner for Wayne State was Pierce junior Brett Suckstorf, winning the discus (150’ 7”) and the hammer throw (181’ 1”).  Other conference champions were Ben Jansen in the 800 meter run (1:53.27) and Tim Pilakowski in the long jump (22’ 8”).
