WSC men lead after opening day of NSIC Track and Field Championships, women in third

Men's Results -Day 1 NSIC

               The Wayne State College men’s track and field team is in first place after the first day of the 2008 Northern Sun Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships being held in Wayne, Nebraska while the Wildcat women’s squad is in third place.

                Nate Preston was a double winner for WSC on the opening day, winning the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:20.09) and crossing the line first in the 10,000 meter run in a time of 32:31.80.  Also winning a conference title on the opening day for the Wildcats were Tim Pilakowski in the long jump (22’ 8”) and Brett Suckstorf in the hammer throw (181’ 1”).  Pilakowski also qualified second in the prelims in both the 100 meter dash (10.91) and the 200 meter dash (22.11). 

                Leading the WSC women’s team on the first day was thrower Katie Wilson, winning the hammer throw with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark and new WSC school record toss of 172’ 7”. She topped the old school mark of 166’ 7” held by Lacey Jensen and set earlier this season (April 14th) at the Sunshine Invite in Wayne.  Also capturing a conference champion for WSC was Sarah Thomsen in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (11:45.58).

                In the prelims, WSC qualified three of the top four finalists in the 100 meter hurdles with Rachel Roebke first (14.37), Kylie Herian second (14.76) and Jade Lippman fourth (15.47).  Herian and Christina King also qualified for the 100 meter dash finals with Herian sixth-fastest (12.55) and King eighth-fastest (12.73).
