Wayne State captures NSIC Volleyball Tournament title with 3-1 win over MSU Moorhead
Wildcats earn third-straight trip to NCAA Div. II North Central Regional Tournament

The Wayne State College volleyball team captured their first-ever Northern Sun Conference Volleyball Tournament Title Saturday evening with a 3-1 win over MSU Moorhead in St. Paul, Minnesota. After falling in the first game to the Dragons 30-22, WSC came on to win the next three games 30-22, 30-19 and 30-22 to earn the league's automatic berth to next weekend's NCAA Division II North Central Regional Tournament.
The Wildcats had three players record double figures in kills as WSC hit .193 in the match. Junior outside hitter Brittany Van Beek led the hitting attack with 18 kills. Senior Emily Schroeder recorded her second straight triple-double and fourth of the season with 16 kills, 15 digs and 13 blocks. Freshman middle hitter Jennifer Hefner added 15 kills in the win without a hitting error in 29 attacks to hit .517 for the match.
Senior libero Laura Dolezal led the Wildcats defensively with 30 digs followed by Jenna Jansen with 18 and Meredy Dubbs and Danielle Wessel with 14 apiece. Jansen added 58 set assists in the win for Wayne State as the Wildcats had 15 blocks in the match to just eight for MSU Moorhead.
For 20-9 MSU Moorhead, Kelci Guenther finished with 18 kills followed by Megan Norling and Mary Sussgenguth with 11 each. The Dragons hit just .077 in the match.
Wayne State placed two players on the NSIC All-Tournament Team announced following the championship match with senior middle hitter Emily Schroeder and junior outside hitter Brittany Van Beek representing the Wildcats on the six-member squad. Other players selected were setter Maggie McNamara of Concordia-St. Paul, setter Julie Vancura of MSU Moorhead, outside hitter Erin Contons of Southwest Minnesota State and middle hitter Kelci Guenther of MSU Moorhead.
Wayne State, now 24-11 on the season, will advance to their third-straight NCAA Division II North Central Regional Tournament. Pairings will be announced Monday morning.
