The Wayne State College men's golf team shot a 308 to win the WSC Fall Invitational played in chilly conditions Friday at the Wayne Country Club. The Wildcats were 13 shots better than runner-up Iowa Western Community College with Buena Vista third at 326 and Wayne State Gold (JV team) fourth at 329.
Adam Fields, a redshirt freshman from Sioux City Heelan, fired a one-under par 71 to take medalist honors for Wayne State. Teammate Blake Thompson was second at 76. Lee Olson, a Wayne State sophomore playing as an individual, was third overall with a 77. Buena Vista's Josh Reed and Tim Murphy each shot 78 to round out the top five.
Other WSC varsity scores included Tyler DeJong with 80, Scott Barnes 81 and Jake Hirz 84. Michael Phillips, a freshman from Mullen, had the top score for the WSC Gold Team with a 78. Keith Eriksen and Drew Shively each shot 82, Brent Hoesing came in at 87 and Josh Reinders shot 89.
The next scheduled action for Wayne State will be Monday, September 17 when the Wildcats play at the Briar Cliff Invitational at Green Valley Golf Course in Sioux City.
