Final results from Hastings College Men's Golf Fall Invite

The Wayne State College men's golf team finished the 2008 fall season with a strong third place finish out of 20 teams at the Hastings College Fall Invitational played Thursday and Friday (October 9-10) in Hastings.  Bethany College of Kansas won the 36-hole tournament with scores of 295 and 291 for a 586, five shots better than Dakota Wesleyan at 591 (292-299).  WSC was in third at 595, shooting a new school record round of 291 on Thursday followed by a 304 on Friday to finish at 595, which is a new 36-hole tournament record for the Wildcats.  The old school mark was 597 set by the 1980 team in the NAIA District Championships at the Wayne Country Club.

Sophomore Adam Fields captured medalist honors by shooting back-to-back rounds of 69 for a 36-hole total of 138, five shots ahead of second place Brian Lloyd of the Hastings College reserve team.  The 138 recorded by Fields is a new WSC school record for a 36-hole tournament, easily topping the 145 shot by Steve Erwin in 1980.  The rounds of 69 (3-under par) also match a school record that Fields matched earlier this year and is held by six other golfers in school history.

Besides Fields winning medalist honors, WSC had two other golfers place in the top 20 as sophomore Tyler DeJong finished in a tie for eighth place overall following rounds of 72 and 77 for a 149.  Senior Blake Thompson came in a tie for 18th place with a 153 (72-81).  Sophomore Jake Hirz shot back-to-back 78's for a 156 and Keith Eriksen carded scores of 79 and 80 for a 159.
