Kneifl notches 100th career win as Wildcat coach

           Freshman middle hitter Mindy Moody recorded a game-high 14 kills to lead 23rd-ranked Wayne State College in a 3-0 NSIC volleyball sweep over St. Cloud State Friday evening in Wayne.  The win also marked the 100th for WSC head volleyball coach Scott Kneifl.  WSC is now 21-5 overall and 10-4 in the NSIC while St. Cloud State dropped to 6-17 overall and 4-11 in league play.

            Wayne State had a strong hitting night as the Widlcats hit .322 with just nine errors while forcing St. Cloud State into 18 hitting errors and a .162 hitting percentage.  Moody was the only player to reach double digits in kills during the game, pounding out 14 with just one error in 27 attacks for a stellar .481 hitting percentage.  Senior libero Meredy Dubbs had 16 digs to lead the Wildcats on defense followed by Brittany Van Beek with 12. 

            For St. Cloud State, Alecia Lunde had eight kills, libero Andreana Pieper finished with 15 digs and Jennifer Waterman handed out 30 set assists for the Huskies.

            Wayne State will be in action again Saturday afternoon when the 23rd-ranked Wildcats host #1 ranked and defending NCAA Division II national champion Concordia, St. Paul starting at 4:00 p.m.

Coach Disch's comments: Travis is in his third year with our program.  He started his career at Wayne State as a freshman and redshirted.  Then he went to New Mexico Junior College for two years and returned to the Wildcats for his last two seasons.  He is a sure gloved first baseman that earned All-NSIC Gold Glove honors last spring.  Not only does he do well on the baseball field, he also has above a 3.0 grade point average in the classroom.  He will hit in the middle of our order and continue to lead by example.

What makes you the person you are today? Everything I have been through, good or bad, in my life has taught me all that I know.  My mom and grandmother have taught me as well.
Coach Unger's comments: Kristen has been a very vocal leader for our squad.  She is a strong athlete and her work ethic is second to none.  Kristen is a very versatile player, but her main priorities will be to hold down first base or spark our offense as the designated player.
