Former Wayne State College All-American runner James McGown won the USA Trail Marathon Championships held Sunday, June 8 in Deadwood, South Dakota at the Deadwood Mickelson Trail. His time on the hilly, 26.2 mile course was 2 hours, 33 minutes and 52 seconds. It was McGown's first USATF national championship after competing in numerous marathons, including a pair of U.S. Olumpic Trial Marathons in past years.
McGown, who currently lives in Sidney, Nebraska where he teaches and is head cross country coach, was an NCAA All-American for Wayne State in cross country in 1997 and was an NCAA All-American in the 1998 Indoor Track and Field season after finishing fourth in the 5,000 meter run.
