The Wayne State College men's cross country team held a 5,000-meter team trial run on Saturday morning at the Wayne Country Club course as a tuneup for Friday's season-opening meet at Northern State. A total of 12 runners competed for the Wildcats.
Senior Nate Preston, the 2007 NSIC men's champion, led a balanced group of runners for the Wildcats by crossing the line first with a time of 16:37. Senior Cheto Cerda was close behind at 16:42 with John Kern, a sophomore from Cedar Bluffs, next at 16:51. Sophomore York Thomas was fourth overall at 16:53 with Matt Schneider fifth at 17:02 and freshman Joe Chebul (Bellevue West) next at 17:06.
Other finishers included Matt Seiler (17:40), Ryan Callahan (17:46), Michael Schinstock (18:33), Adam Meyer (18:34), Jason Schaaf (18:50) and Jimmie Doherty (19:06) on the 5,000 meter course. Wayne State opens the 2008 season on Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the Northern State Open in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
