WSC men golfers close out fall schedule with third place finish at All-Nebraska Meet

All Nebraska Intercollegiate Men's Golf Final Results

            The Wayne State College men’s golf team closed out the 2009 fall schedule by tying for third at the All-Nebraska Intercollegiate Men’s Golf Tournament played at Arbor Links in Nebraska City, Nebraska Monday and Tuesday.  The Wildcats tied with Creighton for third place with a two-day, 36 hole total of 620.  WSC shot rounds of 309 and 311.  Nebraska-Kearney won the tournament with a 600 (296-304) with Southeast Community College in second at 619.

            Following Wayne State and Creighton in the team scoring were Hastings College in fifth at 623, Central Community College of Columbus in sixth at 629 and Dana College seventh with a 654.

            Leading the way for Wayne State were juniors Tyler DeJong and Jake Hirz.  Both players shot 73 and 77 to finish in a tie for third at 150.  Adam Fields was next for the Wildcats at 159, shooting rounds of 82 and 77 to tie for 22nd overall.  Tyler Thompson shot back to back 81’s for a 162 to tie for 28th while Michael Phillips tied for 34th overall after rounds of 87 and 80 for a 167.  Kendall Murphy of Hastings College was the individual medalist with a two-day score of 146 after firing rounds of 73 each day. 

            This meet concludes the 2009 fall season for the Wayne State College men’s golf team.

Coach Disch's comments: Travis is in his third year with our program.  He started his career at Wayne State as a freshman and redshirted.  Then he went to New Mexico Junior College for two years and returned to the Wildcats for his last two seasons.  He is a sure gloved first baseman that earned All-NSIC Gold Glove honors last spring.  Not only does he do well on the baseball field, he also has above a 3.0 grade point average in the classroom.  He will hit in the middle of our order and continue to lead by example.

What makes you the person you are today? Everything I have been through, good or bad, in my life has taught me all that I know.  My mom and grandmother have taught me as well.
Coach Unger's comments: Kristen has been a very vocal leader for our squad.  She is a strong athlete and her work ethic is second to none.  Kristen is a very versatile player, but her main priorities will be to hold down first base or spark our offense as the designated player.
