Junior wide receiver Frederick Bruno of Wayne State College has been selected to the Associated Press Little All-American First Team as an all-purpose player. The team is made up of players from NCAA Division II and III along with NAIA. It's the second All-American honor for Bruno this month after being named to the AFCA Division II All-American Team as a wide receiver on December 7. It's also the second straight season that the Wildcats have produced an Associated Press Little All-American after defensive end Troy Pribnow received All-American honors last season.
Bruno, a 5-8, 210 pound junior wide receiver from Miami, Florida (Miami Springs HS), led Wayne State and the Northern Sun Conference in receiving this year with 77 catches for 1,163 yards and nine touchdowns. He also had 368 yards rushing on just 32 carries with six more TD's. Bruno ranked third in NCAA Division II in all purpose yards per game (197.27), eighth in receiving yards per game (105.73), 11th in receptions per game (7.00) and tied for 20th in scoring with 14 touchdowns. He also had 450 yards in kickoff returns with one touchdown and another 161 yards in punt returns to finish the season with 2,170 all-purpose yards. Bruno was a First Team All-NSIC South Division selection this season and also earned First Team Daktronics Super Region #3 honors.
Wayne State College finished the 2009 season with an 8-3 overall record, going 7-3 in the NSIC to finish in a tie for third place. Wayne State College is an NCAA Division II school located in Wayne, Nebraska and competes in the 14-team Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
