NSIC Indoor Track and Field Preseason Coaches Poll Release
The Wayne State College men's indoor track and field team is picked for a eighth place finish in the 2009-10 Northern Sun Conference Preseason Indoor Track and Field Coaches Poll released by the league office in St. Paul, Minnesota Thursday afternoon. The Minnesota State men were the unanimous choice to win the men's indoor title this season.
The NSIC Preseason Indoor Men's Track and Field poll has Minnesota State receiving 81 points and nine first place votes as the unanimous pick to win the conference title this season with Minnesota Duluth in second place with 72 points and the remaining first place vote (coaches can not vote for their own team). MSU Moorhead (50), St. Cloud State (49) and Northern State (44) round out the top five teams followed by Mary (42), Concordia-St. Paul (38), Wayne State eighth with 36 points, Augustana (28) and Bemidji State (10) closing out the men's preseason poll.
Top athletes to watch for the Wayne State men's indoor track and field team this season include senior distance runner Nate Preston and sophomore pole vaulter Cody Diehl. Preston, a graduate of Omaha Benson HS, was a 2008 cross country All-American for the Wildcats and was a national qualifier last spring in the 3,000 meter steeplechase for the Wildcats while Diehl, a sophomore from Grand Island Northwest HS, placed in the pole vault and indoor heptathlon at the NSIC Championships last year as a freshman.
Wayne State opens the indoor track and field season on Saturday, December 12 when the Wildcats host the WSC Pre Season Open at the WSC Recreation Center.
