Goetzinger and Vollmer team up to blank Felician 8-0

Wayne State pitchers Katie Goetzinger and Brooke Vollmer combined to throw a two-hit shutout, striking out 12 batters, to lead the 16th-ranked Wildcats in an 8-0 six-inning win over Felician College of New Jersey Tuesday morning at the National Training Center Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. The Wildcats are now 7-2 with the win while Felician falls to 1-3.
Goetzinger improved to 6-1 on the season with a solid five inning effort, allowing just one hit while whiffing nine batters and walking three. Vollmer then pitched the final inning, allowing just one hit while notching three strikeouts and one walk.
Offensively, WSC had 12 hits in the game and took advantage of six Felician errors. Four of the Wildcats' 12 hits were triples. Leadoff batter Amy Sandstrom led a balanced attack going 2 for 3 with two RBI's and one run scored. Amber Baird was also 2 for 3 at the plate while Hannah Engelkamp and Brittany Greenwood each went 2 for 4 with each player pounding out a triple. Sam Earleywine and Alyssa Kirsch also tripled for WSC in the win.
