Amy Sandstrom was 4 for 4 and scored three runs while pitcher Katie Goetzinger struck out 12 batters in a complete game shutout to lead the 17th-ranked Wayne State College softball team in a 6-0 win over Bentley College of Massachusetts Wednesday afternoon at the National Training Center Spring Games held in Clermont, Florida.
The Wildcats jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning with the big hit coming off the bat of Jennifer Radley, a two-run double. Alyssa Kirsch also produced an RBI double in the inning. WSC scored two more runs in the fifth inning off just one hit, but used three Bentley errors, to make the score 5-0. Hannah Engelkamp's RBI single in the sixth inning scored Sandstrom with the final run of the game to make the final 6-0.
WSC had eight hits in the game to five for Bentley. Sandstrom was 4 for 4 with a double and three singles to lead the Wildcats at the plate. Radley and Kirsch each added doubles while Engelkamp and Brittany Greenwood each singled to round out Wayne State's eight hits.
Katie Goetzinger (7-1) was the winning pitcher, striking out 12 batters while allowing just five hits for her third shutout of the season.
