Katie Goetzinger leads WSC softball to 3-0 win over NW Missouri State

Katie Goetzinger pitched six scoreless innings and belted a two-run homer in the fourth inning to carry the Wayne State College softball team to a 3-0 win over Northwest Missouri State Sunday afternoon at the Missouri Western Tournament in St. Joseph, Missouri. The Wildcats finished the two-day tournament with a 2-2 record, improving to 15-9 overall, while Northwest Missouri State falls to 9-21 with the loss.
The Wildcats opened the scoring in the first inning when Amber Baird singled and scored on Sam Earleywine's RBI single to give the 'Cats a 1-0 lead. In the fourth inning, Brittany Greenwood singled and scored on Goetzinger's two-run homer to close out the scoring.
Goetzinger (11-6) earned the pitching win, allowing no runs and just two hits over six innings with three strikeouts. Freshman Brooke Vollmer worked a perfect seventh inning, striking out one batter.
Wayne State is scheduled to play at #19 Nebraska-Omaha on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
