Wildcat bats go silent in 5-1 loss at Northwest Missouri State

Wednesday, April 1, 2009

Northwest Missouri State 5 #28 Wayne State 1

#28 Wayne State was limited to just six hits by Northwest Missouri State starting pitcher Bill Disselhoff Wednesday afternoon in a 5-1 non-conference baseball loss at Northwest Missouri State.  The Wildcats fall to 17-7 on the season with the loss while the host Bearcats improve to 11-17.

The Wildcats avoided a shutout in the ninth inning by scoring their only run of the game as Mike Bisenius led off the inning with a pinch hit double.  Treye Hacker then singled to right field and Alex Koch then reached on a fielder’s choice that scored Bisenius for the ‘Cats lone run of the game.

Only one of Northwest Missouri State’s five runs were earned in the game and that was a solo homer by Brandon Kirsch in the second inning.  The Bearcats took advantage of a Wildcat error in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.  NWMSU scored twice in the second inning for a 3-0 lead as Kirsch homered while the other run scored thanks to a passed ball by the Wildcats.  Northwest Missouri State added two more runs in the eighth inning thanks to a second Wildcat error.

Northwest Missouri State had eight hits to six for WSC.  Hacker and Josh Yost each went 2 for 4 to pace the Wildcats at the plate.  Josh Voth (0-3) was the hard luck losing pitcher for WSC, allowing just one earned run in seven innings of work with six strikeouts and one walk.  Jared Hegdahl pitched the final inning and had one strikeout.

Wayne State will host Briar Cliff on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. in a nine-inning contest at the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex in Wayne.
