The Wayne State College men's golf team shot a respectable round of 303, but was good enough for only a sixth place finish Thursday at the Northern Sun Conference Warm Up Tournament held in Lake City, Minnesota at the Jewel Golf Course. Concordia, St. Paul shot a 288, four over par as a team, to win the event by five shots over Minnesota State at 293 while Upper Iowa was third at 294.
Minnesota, Crookston and Winona State tied for fourth at 296 with WSC in sixth at 303. Augustana (317), University of Mary (333) and Northern State (338) rounded out the team scoring.
Individually for WSC, sophomore Adam Fields shot a season-best round of 71 (even par) to finish in a tie for fourth overall. Tyler Thompson was next for the Wildcats with a 75 to tie for 14th overall. Tyler DeJong tied for 23rd with a 77, Blake Thompson posted an 80 to finish tied for 29th while Jake Hirz shot an 82 to tie for 32nd overall.
Wayne State is scheduled to close out the spring season today and tomorrow (Friday and Saturday) when the Wildcats compete in the final round of the Northern Sun Conference Championships in Lake City, Minnesota.
