WSC men golfers take third at Dordt Invitational

Final results from Dordt Invitational men's golf tournament

           Wayne State College placed third out of 16 teams with a team score of 303 Thursday at the Dordt College Invitational men’s golf tournament played at The Ridge Golf Course in Sioux Center, Iowa.  The Wildcats posted a team score of 303, trailing only Dakota Wesleyan (294) and the University of Sioux Falls (300) in the team standings.

            Individually, Tyler DeJong and Tyler Thompson led the Wildcats shooting three-over par 74 to finish in a tie for ninth overall out of 89 players.  Jake Hirz tied for 19th overall with a 77, Adam Fields shot 78 to place in a tie for 25th overall and Michael Phillips came in at 83 to tie for 52nd overall.
        The next meet for Wayne State College will be Sunday and Monday, September 13-14 when the Wildcats travel to Sioux Falls for the Augustana College Invitational.

Coach Disch's comments: Travis is in his third year with our program.  He started his career at Wayne State as a freshman and redshirted.  Then he went to New Mexico Junior College for two years and returned to the Wildcats for his last two seasons.  He is a sure gloved first baseman that earned All-NSIC Gold Glove honors last spring.  Not only does he do well on the baseball field, he also has above a 3.0 grade point average in the classroom.  He will hit in the middle of our order and continue to lead by example.

What makes you the person you are today? Everything I have been through, good or bad, in my life has taught me all that I know.  My mom and grandmother have taught me as well.
Coach Unger's comments: Kristen has been a very vocal leader for our squad.  She is a strong athlete and her work ethic is second to none.  Kristen is a very versatile player, but her main priorities will be to hold down first base or spark our offense as the designated player.
