Wildcats win two more games to extend winning streak to 10

The Wayne State College volleyball team extended its win streak to 10 games Saturday afternoon with a pair of wins at the Rockhurst Tournament in Kansas City. The Wildcats opened day two of the tournament with a 25-16, 25-6, 25-12 win over Illinois-Springfield, then cruised to a 25-9, 25-19, 25-19 win over Missouri Western. The Wildcats are now 11-2 on the season with the two wins.

            In the win over Illinois-Springfield, junior middle-hitter Jennifer Hefner led the Wildcats offensively with 16 kills while junior Lea Hartigan added nine kills and a team high three blocks. Sophomore Tali Fredrickson added 12 digs and four services aces for WSC. Setter Diedra Artz was credited with 34 set assists and added five digs for the Wildcats.

            Wayne State kept the momentum going in the second match of the afternoon against Missouri Western. The Wildcats had a balanced attack led by Lea Hartigan who had 11 kills and six digs. Hartigan also added one service ace and two blocks. Tali Fredrickson added 10 kills and 11 digs and Jennifer Hefner added 11 kills hitting with a .550 hitting percentage for WSC. Setter Diedra Artz was credited with 31 set assists and five digs.
            Following the tournament, Rockhurst announced the All-Tournament Team and Wayne State's selection was Jennifer Hefner.  It's the third straight week that Hefner has been named to an All-Tournament Team for the Wildcats.  In four matches, Hefner had 57 kills, averaging 4.38 kills per game, to go with a superb .490 hitting percentage for the Wildcats. 

            Wayne State will open up NSIC play Tuesday night when the Wildcats head to Southwest Minnesota State at 7:00 p.m. in Marshall, Minnesota.
