WSC Extends Winning Streak to 12 Games

The Wayne State College volleyball team extended their winning streak to 12 games after a victory over Northern State Friday night. The Wildcats defeated the Wolves 3-0, winning 25-18, 25-14 and 25-19. The Wildcats are now 13-2 on the season and 2-0 in the NSIC.

Wayne State was led by Jennifer Hefner who had 15 kills. The reigning Division II National Player of the Week also added eight blocks for the Wildcats. Sophomore Tali Fredrickson added 10 kills for Wayne State and also recorded 11 digs on the night. Junior Lea Hartigan added 12 kills for the Wildcats offensively. Setter Diedra Artz recorded 37 set assists on the night and also added six digs and three blocks. Defensively, Leigh Connot added 14 digs for WSC.

Northern State was led by Whitney Morsching with eight kills and five blocks on the evening. Setter Megan Gilbraith had 28 set assists for the Wolves, now 6-4 overall and 1-1 in the NSIC.

Wayne State will be at home again Saturday afternoon, hosting the University of Mary in a Northern Sun Conference contest starting at 4:00 p.m.

Coach Disch's comments: Travis is in his third year with our program. He started his career at Wayne State as a freshman and redshirted. Then he went to New Mexico Junior College for two years and returned to the Wildcats for his last two seasons. He is a sure gloved first baseman that earned All-NSIC Gold Glove honors last spring. Not only does he do well on the baseball field, he also has above a 3.0 grade point average in the classroom. He will hit in the middle of our order and continue to lead by example.

What makes you the person you are today? Everything I have been through, good or bad, in my life has taught me all that I know. My mom and grandmother have taught me as well.
Coach Unger's comments: Kristen has been a very vocal leader for our squad. She is a strong athlete and her work ethic is second to none. Kristen is a very versatile player, but her main priorities will be to hold down first base or spark our offense as the designated player.
