NSIC/RMAC Regional Crossover Men's Final Results
The Wayne State College men's golf team placed 12th out of 17 teams Sunday and Monday at the NSIC/RMAC Regional Crossover played at Wild Horse Golf Course in Gothenburg, Nebraska. The tournament featured 36 holes played Sunday and 18 on Monday for a total of 54 holes. Minnesota State edged Nebraska-Kearney by one shot, 925-926 to win the 54-hole tournament with Colorado School of Mines and St. Cloud State tied for third at 932. WSC finished with rounds of 328 and 334 Sunday in extremely windy conditions followed by a 310 Monday for a 54-hole team score of 972.
The top finisher for WSC was junior Jake Hirz, a Bellevue West graduate, who tied for 21st overall out of 85 players with rounds of 79, 83 and 74 for a 54-hole total of 236. Next was Sioux City Heelan junior Adam Fields, who tied for 43rd overall following a 242 score (80-84-78). Tyler DeJong and Tyler Thompson each shot 250 to finish in a tie for 59th overall while Michael Phillips shot 254 to finish in a tie for 70th overall.
The next meet for Wayne State College will be Sunday and Monday, October 4-5 when the Wildcats compete in the first round of the 2009-10 Northern Sun Conference Men's Golf Championships in Hastings, Minnesota.
