WSC women golfers finish fourth at season-opening Iowa Western Invite

Lady Reiver Fall Classic Women's Golf Results

       The Wayne State College women's golf team opened the 2009 fall season on Friday with a fourth place finish out of 10 teams at the Lady Reiver Fall Classic in Council Bluffs, Iowa, hosted by Iowa Western Community College. Nebraska-Omaha won the tournament with a 304, easily topping second place Northwestern College of Iowa at 340. Dana College (347) edged Wayne State (348) by one stroke for third place with the Wildcats taking fourth.
        Plainview junior Heather McCabe led a balanced Wildcat effort shooting an 85 to place 11th out of 61 players. Gretna senior Kelsee Katsampes was one stroke behind in a tie for 12th place at 86 followed by Norfolk senior Ali Fuchtman in a tie for 17th with an 88. Paige Barry, a sophomore from Battle Creek, came in with an 89 and Valentine sophomore Katie Isom recorded a round of 94.
        Wayne State returns to action on September 12-13 playing at the Augustana College Invitational in Sioux Falls.

What makes you the person you are today? Everything I have been through, good or bad, in my life has taught me all that I know. My mom and grandmother have taught me as well.
Coach Unger's comments: Kristen has been a very vocal leader for our squad. She is a strong athlete and her work ethic is second to none. Kristen is a very versatile player, but her main priorities will be to hold down first base or spark our offense as the designated player.

Coach Disch's comments: Travis is in his third year with our program. He started his career at Wayne State as a freshman and redshirted. Then he went to New Mexico Junior College for two years and returned to the Wildcats for his last two seasons. He is a sure gloved first baseman that earned All-NSIC Gold Glove honors last spring. Not only does he do well on the baseball field, he also has above a 3.0 grade point average in the classroom. He will hit in the middle of our order and continue to lead by example.
