Valerie Robinson Nets Hat Trick In 5-1 Wildcat Victory

Senior captain Valerie Robinson recorded a hat trick and Samantha Mueting added two goals in Wayne State’s 5-1 victory over Mount Marty College in non conference women’s soccer played Wednesday afternoon at the WSC Soccer Complex. Wayne State is now 1-4 on the season with the win and Mount Marty College slips to 1-3.
Wayne State opened the scoring at the 12:27 mark when Valerie Robinson scored on a 10 foot shot from the left side to put the Wildcats up 1-0. Mount Marty College tied the score in the 26th minute when Lauren Donlin scored in front of the Wildcat goal. But Wayne State responded just over one minute later when Samantha Mueting blasted a 20 yard shot into the Mount Marty goal at 27:21 in the first half to give WSC a 2-1 lead.
In the second half, Wayne State scored three goals in the final 20 minutes to make the score 5-1. Mueting scored her second goal of the contest at the 70:40 mark followed by a penalty kick from Wayne State’s Valerie Robinson at 74:46. WSC added another goal with just 1:17 left in the game when Robinson scored from the top of the box to complete a hat trick.
Wayne State held a sizeable 34-4 advantage in shots over Mount Marty. Emily Walker allowed one goal in just over 80 minutes of playing time in net to earn the win for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats return to action Sunday with a non conference game at Westminster College of Missouri at 3:30 p.m.
