UNL Holiday Inn Invite Results

The Wayne State College indoor track and field teams resumed the 2010 season this weekend competing at the University of Nebraska Holiday Inn Invitational held in Lincoln, Nebraska.  The Wildcats had a strong showing coming off the holiday break as the WSC women’s team won two events with one NCAA national provisional qualifying mark as well as a new school record.
Senior Christina King set a school record in the 400 meter dash with a 57.64 mark, which was good enough for fourth place. She eclipsed her own school record of 58.14 set last season (2-6-09).  Junior Paige Pollard placed fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2.22.99. Distance runner Megan Zavorka placed seventh in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 10:50.77 while fellow distance runner Melissa McIntosh placed eighth in the 1,000 meter run with a time of 3:12.65. The Wildcats distance medley relay team (McIntosh, King, Pollard, Zavorka) had a fourth place finish with a time of 12:48.19.
Junior Casey Buskirk won the 20-pound weight throw with a solid mark of 57’ 6 ¼”, good for a provisional national qualifying mark in NCAA Division II.  Freshman Savannah Wakely made a strong debut in the high jump, finishing in a tie for first after clearing 5’ 2 ¼”. Brianne Hofstetter improved in the triple jump, Hofstetter jumped 34’ 11 ¾ to place eighth.

Wayne State will compete in a pair of meets next weekend as the Wildcats compete at the Iowa State Open in Ames and the USD Alumni Open in Vermillion.
