Howard Wood Dakota Relays Final Results
Sophomore Andrew Jansen won the 400 meter dash and senior Nate Preston reached a provisional national qualifying mark in the 3,000 meter steeplechase to lead the Wayne State College men's outdoor track and field team at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays in Sioux Falls, South Dakota Friday and Saturday.
Jansen won the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.14 seconds while Preston, a national qualifier last season in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, reached a provisional national qualifying mark with a second place finish with a time of 9:16.54.
WSC had nine other finishes in the top 10 as Alex Timperley finished fourth in the triple jump while teammates Travis Toepfer and Lucas Sirek followed sixth and seventh respectively. Michael King finished seventh in the 200 meter dash (22.55) and just missed the finals in the 100 meter dash at 11.21 seconds. John Kern was sixth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:32.67) while Drew Molacek was eighth in the 200 meter dash at 22.57 seconds. In the field events, Jacob Mathieson was seventh in the hammer throw and Cody Diehl finished eighth in the javelin. The 4 x 400 meter relay team of Molacek, King, Aaron Garza and Jansen placed fourth in a time of 3:26.83.
Wayne State will close out the 2010 track schedule next weekend at the Northern Sun Conference Championships in Moorhead, Minnesota on Friday and Saturday.
