The Wayne State College men's outdoor track and field had several athletes compete in three last chance qualifiers Friday night and Saturday night. Friday evening, Nate Preston and John Kern competed in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the North Central College Dr. Keeler Invite in Naperville, Illinois. Kern finished 23rd out of 71 runners with a time of 9:25.61 while Preston was not able to finish the race.
Alex Timperley and Lucas Sirek competed in the triple jump Friday evening at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse Eagle Open in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Timperley was fifth place with a top mark of 45' 5 ¼” while Lucas Sirek came in 10th place with a best effort of 42' 2 ½”.
Saturday, all four competed at the Winona State Qualifier in Winona, Minnesota. Timperley won the triple jump at 44' 11” and Sirek was second at 44' 9”. In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Nate Preston was first at 9:32.85 with teammate John Kern right behind in second place at 9:38.34.
