#19 WSC holds off Regis rally for another win at Colorado Premier Challenge

            Wayne
State College held off a late rally to defeat host Regis University 3-1 at the Colorado Premier Volleyball Challenge in Denver Friday afternoon.  Scores of the match were 25-16, 25-17, 23-25 and 27-25.  With the win, the 19th-ranked Wildcats remain unbeaten at 6-0 on the season while the host Rangers fall to 2-3 on the season.

            After hitting .420 earlier in the day in a 3-0 win over #6 Saint Leo, the Wildcats continued their hot hitting in the first two games of the Regis match, hitting .448 in the first game win (25-16) with 15 kills and just two errors in 29 attacks followed by a .407 hitting percentage in the second game with 12 more kills and just one error in 27 attacks.  WSC hit a combined .140 in the final two games as Regis mounted a rally, but the Wildcats were able to pick up a 27-25 win in the fourth game to complete the match and win 3-1.

            Junior outside hitter Tali Fredrickson led a balanced hitting attack for the Wildcats with 14 kills followed by 12 kills each by senior Jennifer Hefner and freshman Cori Hobbs.  Fredrickson also paced the Wildcats in digs with 18 while junior libero Leigh Connot and freshman defensive specialist McKenna Reagan each added 15 digs on defense.  Senior setter Diedra Artz handed out 47 set assists and had three of Wayne State's eight service aces. 

            Wayne State will face #1 Concordia-St. Paul at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Colorado Premier Challenge in Denver.
