#7 Wayne State 3 Upper Iowa 1

            Senior middle hitter Jennifer Hefner pounded out a match-high 17 kills and #7 Wayne State overcame 14 attack errors in the first set to defeat Upper Iowa 3-1 in Northern Sun Conference volleyball played at Rice Auditorium in Wayne Saturday afternoon.  The Wildcats improve to 10-0 overall and 2-0 in the NSIC while Upper Iowa falls to 2-9 on the season and 0-3 in league play.

            The Wildcats started slow, recording 14 attack errors in the first set as Upper Iowa defeated WSC in the opening set 25-18.  WSC then had just five attack errors the rest of the match and regrouped to win the next three sets by scores of 25-22, 25-12 and 25-15 to win the NSIC match.

            Hefner finished with 17 kills and just three errors on 35 total attacks for a .400 hitting percentage.  Tali Fredrickson added 12 kills and 20 digs while Mindy Moody finished with 10 kills as WSC finished hitting .245 in the match compared to .135 for Upper Iowa.  Junior libero Leigh Connot notched 23 digs followed by Fredrickson with 20, McKenna Reagan 13 and Nicole Brungardt 12 digs.  Senior setter Diedra Artz had 47 set assists.

            Wayne State will be in action again Tuesday evening hosting #12 Nebraska-Kearney at 7:00 p.m. in the annual Black Out/Pack the House Night at Rice Auditorium in Wayne.
