Wildcats use offensive outburst in first half to roll to 5-2 win over Concordia-Seward

            The Wayne State College women's soccer team scored five first half goals in a 5-2 route of Concordia-Seward at the Wayne State College Soccer Complex Saturday afternoon. Senior Megan Dias had two goals late in the first half to lead Wayne State offensively. The win makes the Wildcats 1-1 on the season and the loss drops the Bulldogs to 2-1.

            Wayne State took control of the game early as Liz Israelsen scored her first goal as a Wildcat at the 7:24 mark of the stanza as she buried a feed from Tiffani Kellerman right under the crossbar. WSC added another  goal less than a minute later as senior Mikayla Comba scored her first goal of the season off of a corner kick by Kelsey Meyer.

            The Bulldogs battled back in the middle of the first half adding two goals of their own. Kelly Ross got the Bulldogs on the board first putting a shot past WSC goalkeeper Emily Walker. Concordia-Seward tied the game off of a corner kick as Jordan Donohoue knocked in a header at the 17:05 mark of the half to tie the match at 2-2.

            The Wildcats then went on an offensive charge as senior Stephanie Bright scored off of another corner kick by Meyer to give WSC a 3-2 advantage at the 23:09 mark of the first half.. Then senior Megan Dias took control of the game scoring two straight goals to end the first half with the first coming at the 25:07 mark of the half and the second coming at the 34:48 mark of the stanza. Both of Dias' goals were unassisted as the senior used her speed to go around Bulldog defenders and slip two shots past Concordia-Seward keeper Ariel Harris.

            The Wildcats got defensive in the second half controlling play in the Bulldogs half of the field and only allowing one Concordia-Seward shot in the stanza to walk away with a 5-2 victory.

            Wayne State had 30 shots in the match with 19 coming in the first half and 11 in the second half. The Wildcats also held the advantage on corner kicks as WSC had four to the Bulldogs one.

            The Wildcats were led by Dias with two goals on the afternoon. Dias also added five shots. Comba and Bright and Israelsen each added a goal for WSC. Meyer added two assists in the match to go along with one shot on goal. Senior Emily Walker turned away three shots in net for WSC.

            Concordia-Seward goalkeeper Ariel Harris had 10 saves on the afternoon to lead the Bulldogs. Ross had a goal and four shots to lead the Bulldogs offensively. Donohoue also added a goal for Concordia-Seward.

            Wayne State College will be on the road next weekend, visiting Iowa Wesleyan Saturday (10:00 a.m.) and Waldorf College Sunday (1:00 p.m.) in a pair of non-conference matches.
