#10 Wayne State 83 Concordia-St. Paul 64
Senior forward Alyssa Fischbach poured in a career-high 24 points to power #10 Wayne State College in a 83-64 Northern Sun Conference women's basketball win over Concordia-St. Paul Monday evening at Rice Auditorium in Wayne. The win was the ninth straight overall for the Wildcats and the 18th in a row at Rice Auditorium dating back to last season. WSC is now 10-1 overall and remains perfect in the NSIC at 7-0 while Concordia-St. Paul slips to 3-7 on the season and 2-4 in league play.
After Concordia-St. Paul jumped out to an early 5-2 lead, WSC went on an 11-0 run and following a Renee Wood three pointer took a 13-5 lead with 11:05 to play in the half. The 'Cats took their first double digit lead at 18-8 with 8:26 to play in the half on a trey from Alisha Brown. WSC slowly increased their lead and led by as many as 20 in the first half at 42-22 before taking a 42-25 halftime lead.
WSC kept the pressure on the Golden Bears in the second half, using 55 percent shooting (15 of 27) to maintain a sizeable lead while cruising to the 83-64 win. The Wildcats held several leads of 23 points and never let Concordia-St. Paul get any closer than 17 points as WSC posted the 83-64 win over Concordia-St. Paul.
Senior forward Alyssa Fischbach poured in a career-high 24 points to pace Wayne State in scoring, making 9 of 13 shots from the field and 4 of 4 from the foul stripe. Senior center Mara Hjelle chipped in 16 points while Alisha Brown added 13 points and a career-high nine assists off the bench.
WSC finished the game making 30 of 64 shots for 46.9 percent. The 'Cats were 10 of 24 from the three point line and a perfect 13 of 13 at the foul stripe.
For Concordia-St. Paul, Jineen Williams was the lone Golden Bear in double figures with a game-high 26 points. The Golden Bears shot 27 of 58 from the floor for 46.6 percent, making 6 of 11 three pointers and 4 of 9 free throws.
WSC held a slight 34-32 advantage in rebounding over Concordia-St. Paul thanks to eight boards from Ashley Arlen and seven rebounds by Fischbach. The 'Cats had just 12 turnovers with 18 assists while CSP had 16 turnovers and 11 assists.
Wayne State will be in action again on Tuesday evening, hosting St. Cloud State in a Northern Sun Conference contest starting at 6:00 p.m.
