#9 Wayne State College snapped Augustana's 18-game home court winning streak in convincing fashion Saturday afternoon with a 75-55 win over the Vikings in Northern Sun Conference women's basketball played at the Elmen Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Junior forward Ashley Arlen scored a game-high 25 points for the Wildcats and became the 15th player in WSC women's basketball history to surpass the 1,000 point mark, now with 1,001 in her second season with the Wildcats. With the win, WSC is now 22-2 overall and 19-1 in the NSIC while Augustana, suffering its first home loss since January 9, 2010, falls to 18-9 overall and 11-9 in conference play.
The Wildcats jumped out to an early 12-4 lead in the first four minutes of the game following an Alyssa Fischbach three pointer. After WSC took a 15-7 lead, the host Vikings scored eight straight points and tied the score at 15-15 on a three pointer from Kristi Board with 11:53 to play in the half. The Vikings continued their momentum and took a 20-17 lead with 8:30 remaining in the first half on a Megan Doyle jumper.
But WSC came back with a 12-1 run over the next 5:24 to take the lead for good. Mara Hjelle's three point play with 6:15 to play in the half put WSC in front to stay at 22-20. The Wildcats closed the first half strong thanks to strong bench play and used a pair of three pointers and a basket from Renee Wood and a pair of baskets from Alisha Wood to take a 38-27 lead at halftime.
WSC opened the second half on a mission and took a 14 point lead at 47-33 on a Clare Duwelius three pointer with 16:33 to go in the game. Augustana got as close as eight points at 47-39 on a Megan Doyle three pointer at the 15:34 mark, but WSC responded by scoring the next 11 points to take a commanding 58-39 lead with 12:43 to play and the Wildcats never looked back.
