Wayne State College Director of Athletics Eric Schoh announced today that John Manganaro has stepped down as the head baseball coach of the Wildcats to become President of the Ultimate Baseball Academy in Omaha and has promoted assistant coach and former Wildcat player Brian Disch to interim head coach of the Wildcat baseball program effective immediately. Disch takes over a Wayne State program that was 45-15 this past season and set a new record for wins by a Northern Sun Conference team in league play, going 27-4, to capture a sixth straight NSIC regular season title.
Wayne State College women’s soccer coach Molly Grisham announced today that Kara Naumann (pronounced new-mun) has joined the Wildcat program as a walk on for the 2009 season. She is the ninth player to commit to the Wildcat women’s soccer program for the 2009 season, joining Megan Dias of Riverside, California, Carly Halsey of Pierce, Nebraska, Jessica Lujelusche of Columbus, Nebraska, Hayley Setzer of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Lauren Briscoe of Rochester, Minnesota, Allison Reynolds of Indianola, Iowa, Lydia Myers of Grand Island, Nebraska and Alexandra Baumert of Omaha, Nebraska.
Senior wide receiver Logan Masters has been named Preseason All-American by Sporting News and Lindy's Magazines
The Wayne State College football team is ranked 22nd in the Lindy’s Magazine 2009 College Football Preview that hit newsstands earlier this month. The Wildcats, who were 9-3 last season while making the NCAA Division II playoffs for the first time in school history, are one of two teams from the Northern Sun Conference ranked in the preseason poll, joining defending NCAA Division II champion Minnesota Duluth, who is listed third. Wayne State’s season opening opponent, Nebraska-Kearney, is listed at 18th by Lindy’s.
