Wayne State College seniors Brianne Hofstetter (women's track/field), Mindy Moody (volleyball), Paige Pollard (women's track/field), Jason Schaaf (men's track/field) and Alex Timperley (men's track/field) have received the third annual NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction Award announced Thursday by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota. The honor, named for the late NCAA President Dr. Myles Brand, is bestowed to senior NSIC student-athletes who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 or higher and are exhausting their eligibility and on track to graduate.

Wayne State College head football coach Dan McLaughlin announced today that 30 student athletes have signed national letters of intent and/or written offers of admission and financial aid to attend Wayne State College and continue their football careers with the Wildcats. The 2012 recruiting class includes 28 high school recruits and two transfers. 14 of the 30 signees are from Nebraska, eight are from Iowa, three from Florida, two are from Washington, one from California, one from Illinois and one from Nevada. 17 of the 30 recruits are on the offensive side of the ball, 11 are defensive recruits and two special teams players.

Wayne State College head women's soccer coach Molly Grisham announced today the signing of six recruits to the 2012 recruiting class that have either signed national letters of intent or scholarship offers to attend Wayne State College and play soccer for the Wildcats in the 2012-13 academic year.  Joining the Wildcat program are Josie Brown of Elk River, Minnesota; Makenzie Evans of Glenwood, Iowa; Bridget Hansen of Lincoln, Nebraska; Hannah Thayer of Aurora, Illinois; Courtney True of Yankton, South Dakota and Kelly Voigt of Lee's Summit, Missouri.

Wayne State, ranked fourth in this week's USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll, faces road tests this weekend at Southwest Minnesota State Friday evening (6 pm) and Saturday afternoon at Minnesota State starting at 4 pm.  The 'Cats are 19-2 overall and tied for first in the NSIC along with Augustana at 13-2 in league play.  WSC owns wins this season over both clubs, beating SMSU in Wayne on December 3rd 78-58 while topping Minnesota State in Wayne on December 2nd 78-60.

Wayne State College is on the road this weekend for Northern Sun Conference men's basketball games at Southwest Minnesota State Friday night (8 pm) and Minnesota State Saturday night (6 pm).  The Wildcats are coming off a last-second 43-41 win at home Saturday evening vs. Concordia-St. Paul.  Earlier this season (December 2-3), MSU topped WSC in Wayne 65-60 while SMSU defeated the Wildcats the following night 73-54.

The Wayne State College men's and women's track and field teams remain ranked in this week's USTFCCCA (U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) NCAA Division II National and Regional Team rankings for indoor track and field released Tuesday afternoon.  The Wildcat women's squad is ranked 16th in the national rankings and eighth in the second Central Regional rankings of the season while the men's team remains 10th in the Central Regional rankings.

Wayne State College has matched its' highest-ever national ranking in women's basketball as the Wildcats moved up three spots to fourth in this week's USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll released Tuesday afternoon. The Wildcats received a total of 656 points in voting conducted by various Division II head coaches from across the country to match the school's highest-ever national ranking achieved on November 29th and December 6th earlier this season.

Coach Disch's comments: Travis is in his third year with our program.  He started his career at Wayne State as a freshman and redshirted.  Then he went to New Mexico Junior College for two years and returned to the Wildcats for his last two seasons.  He is a sure gloved first baseman that earned All-NSIC Gold Glove honors last spring.  Not only does he do well on the baseball field, he also has above a 3.0 grade point average in the classroom.  He will hit in the middle of our order and continue to lead by example.

Coach Unger's comments: Kristen has been a very vocal leader for our squad.  She is a strong athlete and her work ethic is second to none.  Kristen is a very versatile player, but her main priorities will be to hold down first base or spark our offense as the designated player.
