#25 WSC volleyball defeats Upper Iowa 3-0 for seventh straight win

#25 Wayne State 3 Upper Iowa 0

The #25 Wayne State College volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 win over Upper Iowa on Saturday afternoon in Wayne.  Scores of the match were 25-13, 25-17 and 25-20.  Wayne State has won seven straight games and is now 19-3 on the year and 8-3 in the NSIC.  Upper Iowa is 10-13 overall and 2-10 in the NSIC with the loss.

Wayne State had a .282 team hitting percentage while holding Upper Iowa to a .067 team hitting percentage.  Brittany Van Beek led a balanced WSC hitting attack with a game-high 13 kills.  Lea Hartigan added nine kills, Jennifer Hefner had eight kills and Mindy Moody had seven kills for the 'Cats.  Jenna Jansen handed out 31 assists for Wayne State while Van Beek and Meredy Dubbs each had 10 digs to lead WSC defensively.  Beth Deutmeyer had seven kills and Keri Vance handed out 24 assists for Upper Iowa.

Wayne State will return to action on Wednesday evening when they host #7 Nebraska-Kearney on "Pack the House" night at Rice Auditorium.  Fans are encouraged to wear black and support the Wildcats as WSC looks to break the single match attendance record set two years ago when the WSC vs. UNK match drew 1,382 fans.

Coach Disch's comments: Travis is in his third year with our program.  He started his career at Wayne State as a freshman and redshirted.  Then he went to New Mexico Junior College for two years and returned to the Wildcats for his last two seasons.  He is a sure gloved first baseman that earned All-NSIC Gold Glove honors last spring.  Not only does he do well on the baseball field, he also has above a 3.0 grade point average in the classroom.  He will hit in the middle of our order and continue to lead by example.

What makes you the person you are today? Everything I have been through, good or bad, in my life has taught me all that I know.  My mom and grandmother have taught me as well.
Coach Unger's comments: Kristen has been a very vocal leader for our squad.  She is a strong athlete and her work ethic is second to none.  Kristen is a very versatile player, but her main priorities will be to hold down first base or spark our offense as the designated player.
