Pilakowski wins two events at WSC Sunshine Invite

WSC Sunshine Invitational Men's Results

Wayne State College sprinter Tim Pilakowski won two events to lead the Wildcat men's track and field squad Monday at the WSC Sunshine Invitational held at Cunningham Field in Wayne.  As a team, the Wildcats won five events with two NCAA national provisional qualifying marks and one new school record.

The senior from Genoa, Nebraska took first place in the 100 meter dash (10.91 seconds) and the 200 meter dash (22.40) while also placing third in the long jump at 23' 4".  Pierce junior Brett Suckstorf extended his own school record and NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the hammer throw with a first place effort of 186’ 6” while teammate John Sloup was a close second at 182’ 6”, also an NCAA provisional mark. Nate Preston took first in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:31.10) while the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Kelly Brink, Jake Davis, Garrett Flamig and Ben Jansen crossed the line first in a time of 3:24.73.  The next meet for Wayne State will be the Sioux City Relays on Friday and Saturday, April 18 and 19.

Coach Unger's comments: Kristen has been a very vocal leader for our squad.  She is a strong athlete and her work ethic is second to none.  Kristen is a very versatile player, but her main priorities will be to hold down first base or spark our offense as the designated player.

Coach Disch's comments: Travis is in his third year with our program.  He started his career at Wayne State as a freshman and redshirted.  Then he went to New Mexico Junior College for two years and returned to the Wildcats for his last two seasons.  He is a sure gloved first baseman that earned All-NSIC Gold Glove honors last spring.  Not only does he do well on the baseball field, he also has above a 3.0 grade point average in the classroom.  He will hit in the middle of our order and continue to lead by example.
