Pollard places fourth in 800 run to lead WSC women at UNL track meet

UNL Holiday Inn Invitational Final Results

The Wayne State College women's indoor track and field team competed for the first time in 2009 this weekend at the University of Nebraska Holiday Inn Invitational held in Lincoln at the Devaney Center Indoor Track.  The top performance for the Wildcats was turned in by Newcastle sophomore Paige Pollard, who placed fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:21.36.

Other top finishers included Wahoo junior Sarah Thomsen coming in seventh place in the one mile run (5:28.48) with teammate Melissa McIntosh right behind in eighth place at 5:32.98.  Misty Rystrom came in eighth place in the high jump at 5' 3" and the distance medley relay team of Sarah Thomsen, Tatiana DeLosSantos, Molly Gibson and Melissa McIntosh took fourth place with a time of 13:03.17.

The next meet for the Wildcats will be on Friday and Saturday, January 23 and 24, when Wayne State competes in the Iowa State Open at Ames, Iowa.

What makes you the person you are today? Everything I have been through, good or bad, in my life has taught me all that I know.  My mom and grandmother have taught me as well.
Coach Unger's comments: Kristen has been a very vocal leader for our squad.  She is a strong athlete and her work ethic is second to none.  Kristen is a very versatile player, but her main priorities will be to hold down first base or spark our offense as the designated player.

Coach Disch's comments: Travis is in his third year with our program.  He started his career at Wayne State as a freshman and redshirted.  Then he went to New Mexico Junior College for two years and returned to the Wildcats for his last two seasons.  He is a sure gloved first baseman that earned All-NSIC Gold Glove honors last spring.  Not only does he do well on the baseball field, he also has above a 3.0 grade point average in the classroom.  He will hit in the middle of our order and continue to lead by example.
