Final results from USD Bill Hillenbrand Invitational

Frank Sevigne Husker Invite Results

The Wayne State College men's indoor track and field team competed Saturday at the Bill Hillenbrand Invitational held at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.  The meet featured NCAA teams from South Dakota State, South Dakota, Northern State, Chadron State, Nebraska-Kearney and Nebraska-Omaha along with 14 NAIA schools from the tri-state region. 

Senior middle distance runner Ben Jansen (Omaha Bryan) picked up the lone win for the Wildcats as he crossed the line first in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:59.48.  Wildcat teammate Cheto Cerda was right behind in second place at 1:59.64 and he also placed fifth in the one mile run at 4:29.96.

On Friday, four Wildcat runners competed in Lincoln at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational.  Senior distance runner Nate Preston (Omaha Benson) placed fifth in the 5,000 meter run with a season-best time of 14:56.61.  Teammates John Kern (15:39.57) and Matt Schneider (16:09.72) finished 17th and 19th respectively in the same event while Mack Baumann was disqualified in the 400 meter run.

Wayne State's next meet will be on Saturday, February 14th when the Wildcats host the Wildcat Open in the WSC Recreation Center starting with field events at 11:00 a.m.

600 Meter Run: Andy Jansen, 4th – 1:24.87

800 Meter Run: Ben Jansen, 1st – 1:59.48; Cheto Cerda, 2nd – 1:59.64

1000 Meter Run: Nathaniel Bergen, 8th – 2:39.93

One Mile Run: Cheto Cerda, 5th – 4:29.96

4 x 400 Meter Relay: 3rd – 3:28.32 (Garrett Flamig, Andy Jansen, Ben Jansen, Mack Baumann)

4 x 800 Meter Relay: 4th – 8:22.01 (Cheto Cerda, Nathaniel Bergen, Jason Schaaf, Lee Anderson)   

60 Meter Hurdles: Garrett Flamig, 5th – 8.39

Triple Jump: Rashad Moxey, 3rd – 45’ 9”

Coach Unger's comments: Kristen has been a very vocal leader for our squad.  She is a strong athlete and her work ethic is second to none.  Kristen is a very versatile player, but her main priorities will be to hold down first base or spark our offense as the designated player.

Coach Disch's comments: Travis is in his third year with our program.  He started his career at Wayne State as a freshman and redshirted.  Then he went to New Mexico Junior College for two years and returned to the Wildcats for his last two seasons.  He is a sure gloved first baseman that earned All-NSIC Gold Glove honors last spring.  Not only does he do well on the baseball field, he also has above a 3.0 grade point average in the classroom.  He will hit in the middle of our order and continue to lead by example.
