Final results from WSC Women's Golf Spring Invitational

The Wayne State College women's golf team placed third at the two-day Wayne State College Spring Golf Invitational played Sunday and Monday in windy conditions at the Wayne Country Club.  The Wildcats shot rounds of 354 and 350 for a total of 704.  Nebraska-Omaha won the tournament with a 650 (332-318) followed by Nebraska-Kearney in second at 700 (359-341), four strokes ahead of Wayne State.  Morningside's 761 (389-372) and the Wayne State Gold (JV) team with a 788 (399-389) rounded out the team scoring.

Gretna junior Kelsee Katsampes posted the top individual score for the Wildcats, placing seventh overall with a 168 after shooting rounds of 88 and 80.  Also earning medals for WSC were Plainview sophomore Heather McCabe in ninth at 175 (87-88) and Katie Isom in 10th at 179 with scores of 90 and 89. 

Other WSC varsity golfers included Paige Barry (13th) with a 182 (89-93) and Ali Fuchtman shooting a 200 (101-99).  The top player on the WSC Gold Team was Liz Garden with a 193 (95-98) followed by Emily Dillon with a 198 (102-96).  Kasey Hansen shot an even 200 (106-94), Ashley Avery posted scores of 102 and 101 for a 203 and Megan Finke came in with a 207 (100-107). 

The next meet for Wayne State College will be Sunday and Monday, March 29 and 30th, when the Wildcats play at the Missouri Western Invite in St. Joseph, Missouri.

What makes you the person you are today? Everything I have been through, good or bad, in my life has taught me all that I know.  My mom and grandmother have taught me as well.
Coach Unger's comments: Kristen has been a very vocal leader for our squad.  She is a strong athlete and her work ethic is second to none.  Kristen is a very versatile player, but her main priorities will be to hold down first base or spark our offense as the designated player.

Coach Disch's comments: Travis is in his third year with our program.  He started his career at Wayne State as a freshman and redshirted.  Then he went to New Mexico Junior College for two years and returned to the Wildcats for his last two seasons.  He is a sure gloved first baseman that earned All-NSIC Gold Glove honors last spring.  Not only does he do well on the baseball field, he also has above a 3.0 grade point average in the classroom.  He will hit in the middle of our order and continue to lead by example.
