WSC Men's Spring Golf Invite Final Results

            The Wayne State College men's golf team set two new school records Monday to finish in second place at the Wayne State Spring Invitational played at the Wayne Country Club.  The Wildcats set a new school record for 18 holes with a 287 and established a new 36-hole scoring record of 589 to finish just two strokes behind team champion St. Cloud State (298-289) at 587. 

            The old school records for Wayne State were 291 for 18 holes and 595 for 36 holes, both set at the Hastings College Fall Invitational on October 10, 2008. 

            Following St. Cloud State (587) and Wayne State (589) in the team standings were Nebraska-Kearney in third at 593, Minnesota State fourth at 602 and Concordia-St. Paul fifth at 604.  Other team scores included Upper Iowa (607), Augustana College (625), Northern State (626), Minnesota, Crookston (628) and Winona State (634).

            Sioux City Heelan junior Adam Fields captured individual medalist honors shooting rounds of 74 and 70 for a two-day total of 144 (even par) to lead Wayne State.  Bellevue West graduate Jake Hirz, another junior, was right behind in a four-way tie for second at 145 after rounds of 73 and 72.  Glenwood, Iowa sophomore Tyler Thompson fired a two-under par 70 on Monday to go with his 77 on Sunday to finish tied for sixth at 147.  Other WSC scores included Tyler DeJong tied for 30^th at 153 (78-75) and Scott Barnes tied for 56^th at 164 (83-81). 

            The next meet for the Wayne State men will be Friday and Saturday when the Wildcats play at the Upper Iowa Invitational in Ankeny, Iowa.
