Brett Spiker named First Team All-NSIC

NSIC Men's Basketball All-Conference Release

            Brett Spiker of Wayne State College was selected to the 2009-10 NSIC Men's Basketball All-Conference Team released today by the league office in St. Paul, Minnesota.  Spiker was one of 10 players named to the First Team and was the only Wildcat player selected to the squad as voted on by the league's head coaches.

            Spiker, a 6-7 senior forward from Chariton, Iowa, averaged 13.4 points and an NSIC leading 10.9 rebounds in 20 league games this season.  He also led the league in conference play in offensive rebounds per game (3.90), defensive rebounds per game (7.00) and was second in field goal percentage at 61.3 percent, making 100 of 163 shots in league play.  Spiker had 11 double-doubles in 20 league games for the Wildcats this season, highlighted by a career-high 27 points to go with 11 rebounds in a 74-72 win over Northern State on December 4th and added a career-high 17 rebounds with 16 points at Winona State on January 15th.  Overall, Spiker averaged 12.5 points and 9.8 rebounds for the Wildcats, this season, shooting 59.4 percent (130 of 219) from the field and 64.5 percent (91 of 141) at the free throw line.

            Wayne State is 14-14 on the season and finished in a tie for sixth in the NSIC this season with a 10-10 league record.  The Wildcats have won five of their last six games and are coming off a 75-52 win at #15 Augustana Wednesday evening in the first round of the 2010 NSIC Sanford Health Men's Basketball Tournament.  The Wildcats now face second seed St. Cloud State on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the semi finals of the NSIC Sanford Health Men's Basketball Tournament in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
