            Wayne
State remained unbeaten at the Northern Sun Conference Softball Tournament in Sioux Falls, South Dakota Friday afternoon with a 5-0 win over Winona State.  Katie Goetzinger pitched a six-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and also homered and drove in two runs for the Wildcats in the win.  WSC is now 38-12 on the season while Winona State falls to 37-11.

            Wayne State struck first with a solo run in the first inning as Kassie Nurton walked, advanced to second on Blaire Kuhl's single and to third on a Sam Earleywine walk.  Jennifer Radley's single up the middle scored Nurton to put WSC up early 1-0.  The 'Cats took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning when Goetzinger belted a two-out solo homer to left center field.  WSC took a 4-0 lead in the fifth when Brittany Greenwood left off the inning with a double and scored on Amy Sandstrom's home run to right center field.  The Wildcats added another run in the sixth inning without a hit as Radley and Hannah Engelkamp walked followed by Goetzinger reaching base on a Winona State error that scored pinch runner Alesha Finkey to make the final score 5-0.

            Winona State had one more hit than WSC, 6-5.  Sandstrom and Goetzinger each homered to lead WSC at the plate.  Greenwood's double and singles by Kuhl and Radley rounded out Wayne State's five hits in the win. 

            Katie Goetzinger (27-8) pitched a complete game for the Wildcats, striking out nine while allowing six hits in the shutout win. 

             The Wildcats will play in the winner's bracket final on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. against either Augustana or Minnesota State.
