#2 seed Metro State shuts down Minnesota Duluth 58-47

            #2 seed Metro State held Minnesota Duluth to 25 percent shooting as the Roadrunners topped the Bulldogs 58-47 in a physical battle at the NCAA Division II Central Region Women's Basketball Tournament played at Rice Auditorium in Wayne.  
            The Roadrunners led from start to finish and jumped out to an early 12-2 lead in the first five minutes of the contest, but the Bulldogs slowly chipped away at the Metro State lead and pulled within three at 19-16 at halftime.
            Minnesota Duluth got as close as one point early in the second half, 25-24 with 16:24 to play in the game.  Metro State then scored the next six points to go up 31-24 and pushed the lead again to double digits at 47-37 with 5:31 to play and finished with the 58-47 win.
            Metro State's Caley Dow scored a game-high 19 points for the Roadrunners, who shot 37.7 percent from the field making 20 of 53 shots.  Kristin Valencia was the top rebounder for Metro State with nine caroms.
            Minnesota Duluth's top scorer was Katrina Newman with 14 points followed by Courtney Doucette with 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
            Metro State is now 26-3 on the season and will face Fort Lewis College in a semi-final game on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. while Minnesota Duluth ends the season at 18-10.
