The Wayne State College baseball team is ranked 16th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Top 25 Preseason poll released Thursday. WSC received 179 points in voting conducted by baseball writers from across the country. Wayne State was 45-15 last season and won a sixth straight Northern Sun Conference Baseball title and advanced to the NCAA Division II National Tournament for a sixth straight season where the Wildcats reached the Central Region title game before falling to Mesa State.

Wayne State College was picked to finish second in the 2010 Northern Sun Conference Preseason Baseball Coaches Poll released this afternoon by the league office in St. Paul, Minnesota. It’s the first time since the 2003 season that WSC has not been picked as the preseason favorite in NSIC baseball. The Wildcats captured a sixth straight NSIC regular season title last season, going 27-4 in league play to set a new record for league wins in a season. WSC went on to finish 45-15 overall, reaching the NCAA Central Regional championship game.

The Wayne State College baseball team is ranked 19th in the Ping!Baseball.com Division II Preseason Top 30 poll released today. It’s the second national preseason ranking for the Wildcats this season after being selected 14th in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper NCAA Division II Coaches Poll on December 21st. Wayne State posted a 45-15 record last season and captured a sixth straight Northern Sun Conference regular season title.

The Wayne State College baseball program will be conducting two baseball camps in the month of January. A Total Skills Camp will be held on Sunday, January 17th with a Hitting/Pitching Intensity Camp scheduled for Sunday, January 24th. Both camps will take place in the Wayne State College Recreation Center and are open to baseball players ages 8 to 18. Players will be grouped according to age with the average group size of four players to ensure quality fundamentals and instruction.
