WSC women win five events, set four NCAA provisional marks at Sunshine Invite

WSC Sunshine Invite Women's Results

The Wayne State College women’s track and field squad had four national provisional marks to go with one new school record and five first-place finishes Monday at the WSC Sunshine Invitational held at Cunningham Field in Wayne.  Other teams competing at the meet included Briar Cliff, Dakota State, Dakota Wesleyan, Dordt, Mount Marty, Northwestern, Univ. of Sioux Falls and South Dakota along with Wayne State College.

Senior hurdler Rachel Roebke won the 100 meter hurdles in an NCAA national provisional qualifying time of 14.20 seconds with teammate Kylie Herian right behind in second place at 14.45 seconds.  Senior Lacey Jensen extended her school record and NCAA national provisional qualifying mark by winning the hammer throw at 166’ 7” with teammate Katie Wilson in second place at 162’3”, also an NCAA provisional mark.  Wilson also had a NCAA provisional mark in the shot put, placing second at 46’ 11”.  Other first place finishers were Herian in the 100 meter dash (12.59 seconds), Sarah Thomsen in the 3,000 meter run (10:56.40) and Paige Pollard in the 400 meter hurdles (1:03.91).  The next meet for Wayne State will be the Sioux City Relays on Friday and Saturday, April 18 and 19.

What makes you the person you are today? Everything I have been through, good or bad, in my life has taught me all that I know.  My mom and grandmother have taught me as well.
Coach Unger's comments: Kristen has been a very vocal leader for our squad.  She is a strong athlete and her work ethic is second to none.  Kristen is a very versatile player, but her main priorities will be to hold down first base or spark our offense as the designated player.

Coach Disch's comments: Travis is in his third year with our program.  He started his career at Wayne State as a freshman and redshirted.  Then he went to New Mexico Junior College for two years and returned to the Wildcats for his last two seasons.  He is a sure gloved first baseman that earned All-NSIC Gold Glove honors last spring.  Not only does he do well on the baseball field, he also has above a 3.0 grade point average in the classroom.  He will hit in the middle of our order and continue to lead by example.
