Final results from 2009 NSIC Women's Cross Country Championships
The Wayne State College women's cross country team earned a sixth place finish at the Northern Sun Conference Championships held in Bemidji, Minnesota Saturday at Greenwood Golf Course. The Wildcats scored 160 points to finish sixth in the 11-team field. Augustana captured the overall team title with a point total of 38 and Minnesota Duluth was second finishing with 57 points.
Senior Megan Zavorka topped all Wildcat runners with a 10th place finish in 23:14.3, earning her First Team All – NSIC honors by finishing in the top 10 individuals. Freshman Ky'Lee Engelken was next for WSC finishing 22nd in 23:42.5, just missing out on Second Team honors by two places. She was followed by fellow Wildcat Sarah Thomsen finishing in 29th and 23:59.5. Rounding out the scoring for the Wildcats were junior Meghan Jacob and junior Melissa McIntosh finishing 48th and 51th in 24:53.3 and 25:04.5 respectively. Other Wildcat finishers were Molly Gibson (57th place, 25:25.8) and Tatiana DeLosSantos (65th, 26:32.9).
In the women's division, following Augustana and Minnesota Duluth in the team scores were University of Mary (81 points), Minnesota State (141), Winona State (147) and following the Wildcats were St. Cloud State (180), Northern State (191), MSU Moorhead (192), Bemidji State (328) and Concordia St. Paul (335).
The Wayne State women will close out the regular season on Saturday, November 7th hosting the NCAA Division II Central Regional Championships.
