#15 Wildcats cruise past Minnesota, Crookston

#15 Wayne State 3 Minnesota, Crookston 0

            Jennifer Hefner and Tali Fredrickson each recorded 14 kills to propel #15 Wayne State in a 3-0 Northern Sun Conference volleyball win at Minnesota, Crookston Friday evening.  Scores of the match were 25-18, 25-12 and 25-7.  Wayne State is now 28-6 overall and 16-3 in the NSIC, sole possession of second place in the league, while Minnesota, Crookston drops to 6-25 overall and 3-16 in league play.

            The Wildcats hit .404 in the match, the third time this season that WSC has hit over .400.  Hefner hit .667 with 14 kills in 18 attacks while Fredrickson notched 14 kills to go with 16 digs for her 15th double-double of the season.  Libero Leigh Connot contributed 12 digs in the win while setter Diedra Artz was credited with 40 set assists for WSC. 

            For Minnesota, Crookston, Amber Meyer from Paxton, Nebraska had 11 kills.

            Wayne State will close out the regular season at MSU Moorhead Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.

Coach Disch's comments: Travis is in his third year with our program.  He started his career at Wayne State as a freshman and redshirted.  Then he went to New Mexico Junior College for two years and returned to the Wildcats for his last two seasons.  He is a sure gloved first baseman that earned All-NSIC Gold Glove honors last spring.  Not only does he do well on the baseball field, he also has above a 3.0 grade point average in the classroom.  He will hit in the middle of our order and continue to lead by example.

What makes you the person you are today? Everything I have been through, good or bad, in my life has taught me all that I know.  My mom and grandmother have taught me as well.
Coach Unger's comments: Kristen has been a very vocal leader for our squad.  She is a strong athlete and her work ethic is second to none.  Kristen is a very versatile player, but her main priorities will be to hold down first base or spark our offense as the designated player.
