An estimated 1,250 fans watched the Nebraska volleyball team Saturday afternoon at Wayne State College's Rice Auditorium as the Huskers provided a behind-the-scenes look at Nebraska volleyball. As the Husker Red and White teams played a four-set scrimmage, Nebraska coach John Cook gave comments and instruction to fans about the Huskers' play. The Red Team defeated the White 25-22, 25-18, 23-25 and 15-13.
The day started with Wayne State hosting a free youth clinic in the WSC Recreation Center for kids in grades K-6 that drew an estimated 250 players. Following the Red/White scrimmage in Rice Auditorium, Nebraska players then held an autograph session with fans.
“We do this every spring, reaching out to a different part of the state,” remarked Coach Cook. “We've never done anything like this in northeast Nebraska and it was great to see the community involvement. It's great to get our team up here to interact with the fans and we had a great reception.”
On how the Huskers played, Coach Cook said, “It was our first test this spring and I thought we did some great things but we also have some things we need to work on too. That's why we do events like this, to see where we are at. It was a great teaching day.”
