Wayne State College head baseball coach Brian Disch announced today the addition of four players to the Wildcat baseball squad for the 2010-11 baseball season. The list includes Tanner Lancaster of Norfolk, Nebraska, Travis Parsons of Loveland, Colorado, David Salavitch of Lee's Summit, Missouri and Cody Schacht of Giltner, Nebraska. “We are happy to have these players join our Wildcat baseball family,” remarked Coach Disch. “All four of these players will provide depth in the field and on the mound for our program.”
Lancaster is a 6-2, 185 pound shortstop from Norfolk that was a three year starter for Norfolk High School and a four year starter for the Legion program in the summer. In high school as a senior Lancaster hit .447 with 10 doubles. He is the younger brother of Wildcat senior pitcher Reid Lancaster.
Parsons is a 6-1, 195 pound outfielder that is transferring to WSC from New Mexico Junior College. He is a graduate of Thompson Valley High School in Loveland, Colorado. This past season he hit .292 with two homers and 23 RBIs at New Mexico Junior College and posted a .352 average as a freshman in 2009 with four homers and 25 RBIs which earned him a spot in the Texas/New Mexico All-Star Game. He will have two seasons of eligibility with WSC.
Salavitch is a 6-2, 180 pound catcher that transfers to WSC from Neosho County Community College in Kansas. In high school at Lee's Summit in Missouri, he was a First Team All-District selection two seasons and was First Team All-Conference three years. As a senior he set a school record for hits in a season. Salavitch will have four years of eligibility at Wayne State.
Schacht is a 6-1, 170 pound right handed pitcher that played for Aurora Legion Post 42 this summer. He was a three sport standout at Giltner in football, basketball and track earning All-District honors in football and All-Conference honors in basketball as a senior.
Wayne State College is an NCAA Division II school located in Wayne, Nebraska and competes in the 14-team Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Wildcats finished the 2010 season with a 26-23 record going 21-10 in the NSIC for a sixth place finish. WSC has won the Northern Sun Conference regular season championship six of the past seven seasons while also advancing to the NCAA Division II National Tournament.
