Wayne State College baseball pitchers Eric Dye and John Snyder had a successful summer playing for the Swift Current Indians in Saskatchewan, Canada, helping the team with the 2010 Western Major Baseball League championship. Former Wildcat All-American Dustin Jones helped the same team win a league title in the 2006 season.
The Swift Current Indians completed a sweep of the best of five league championship series on Saturday, August 14 with a 7-2 win over the Regina Red Sox. The team finished the regular season with the best record in the Western Major Baseball League, going 30-12, while winning the Central Division crown. The Western Major Baseball League has 11 teams in Canada.
Snyder, who just completed his Wayne State career in the 2010 season, was 5-2 in nine starts for Swift Current this season with a 3.31 ERA. The Millard West graduate had 41 strikeouts in 51 2/3 innings work, allowing 53 hits and 26 runs (19 earned). Dye, who will be a senior at Wayne State this upcoming season, was 4-1 on the mound in nine games with five starts and a 2.12 ERA. The Tulsa, Oklahoma native worked 34 innings for the Indians this summer, allowing 34 hits and 14 runs (eight earned) with 27 strikeouts and 13 walks.
