The Wayne State College volleyball team held Urbana University of Ohio to a .043 hitting percentage in rolling to a 3-0 win Friday afternoon at the Rockhurst Volleyball Classic in Kansas City, Missouri. Scores of the match were 25-17, 25-13 and 25-14. The Wildcats, ranked 17th in the AVCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, improved to 2-0 on the season with the win.
Senior middle hitter Jennifer Hefner recorded a match-high 11 kills to pace Wayne State in hitting. Juniors Mindy Moody and Tali Fredrickson each accounted for six kills for the Wildcats, who hit .214 as a team in the win. Senior setter Diedra Artz handed out 27 set assists while Fredrickson and Leigh Connot shared team-high honors in digs with eight apiece. WSC had 13 service aces in the win with Fredrickson notching five followed by Norfolk Catholic junior Nicole Brungardt with four service aces.
Wayne State will play two more matches at the Rockhurst Volleyball Classic on Saturday, battling host Tiffin of Ohio at 11:00 a.m. and host Rockhurst University at 3:00 p.m.
