Dordt College Indoor Invite Results

                The Wayne State College indoor track and field teams competed at two meets this weekend in their first action of the 2011 indoor season as part of the team participated at the UNL Holiday Inn Invitational in Lincoln, Nebraska Friday and Saturday while the rest of the team traveled to Sioux Center, Iowa for the Dordt College Invitational.  

                Leading the way for the Wayne State men was newcomer Ross Bunchek, who set a new school record and achieved an NCAA provisional qualifying mark by winning the weight throw at the UNL Holiday Inn Invitational with a mark of 64' ½”.  The old school record was 59' 3” set by Brett Suckstorf, the current throws coach for the Wildcats, in the 2008 indoor season.  Other top 10 finishers in Lincoln for the Wildcats included John Kern taking seventh in the 3,000 meter run (8:46.13) while Brad Wright was eighth in the shot put (46' 8 ¼”) and ninth in the weight throw (52' 7 ½”).

                At the Dordt Indoor Invitational, junior Alex Timperley won the triple jump (46' 2 ¾”) for the lone Wildcat win.  John Kern ran a personal-best time of 4:27.18 in the one mile run to earn a second place finish while Andrew Jansen was second in the 400 meter dash (50.47).  Cody Diehl tied for fourth in the pole vault (13' 7 ¼”) and tied for seventh in the high jump clearing 5' 8”.

                Wayne State will be in action again next weekend hosting the Wildcat Open on Saturday, January 22^nd starting with field events at 10:00 a.m. in the WSC Recreation Center.
